A documentary photographer from Seoul journeys to a remote Gangwon mountain village to document a centuries-old shamanic ritual before it vanishes forever. But when she arrives, Yun Haseong finds a village eerily prosperous yet strangely silent — the last shaman has disappeared, the ritual was never completed, and deep beneath the ancient ginkgo tree at the village center, something that was caged by five centuries of gut (굿) is beginning to stir. As the mystery deepens, Haseong discovers that her own mother was the last true keeper of the pact, and that she must become the shaman herself — or watch the mountain consume the village's very memory.
